This course is a 4-week block of classes and is an ideal introduction to creating a colour portrait from a photographic reference. The course is a step by step process as follows:
Week 1 – Measuring out facial proportions and tonal work to produce a monochrome painting (grisaille) as a base for the portrait.
Week 2 – Further attention to facial proportions and further tonal work, with first application of colour using a limited colour palette.
Week 3 – Further colour application with emphasis on colour mixing and use of warm and cool colours to develop the portrait.
Week 4 – Final adjustments / fine tuning to achieve likeness.
A colour portrait in oils will be produced, with attention to facial proportions, tone and colour to create a realistic image. The workshop is perfect for beginners and painters with some experience. Price is £90 per person for the 4-week course (if bringing your own materials/paint) or £105 per person if materials/paint is supplied by Cordell.
